1. Overview

Subtra AI provides subtitle translation, dual subtitles, vocabulary management, and interactive drill sessions on web streaming video players. We respect your personal privacy and handle your learning data with care and transparency.

2. Data We Collect

  • Authentication: We use Google OAuth via Supabase to manage your account. This includes your email address and a unique User ID. We do not have access to or store your Google passwords.
  • Interaction Data: When you use translation shortcuts (such as Alt+X or Alt+V) or hover-and-click translations, we collect the subtitle text, the media title (e.g., YouTube video name or Netflix show title), the source URL, and the specific video timestamp to provide context for your learning.
  • Learning History: Your saved sentences, word bank entries, quiz results, and AI-generated training content are stored securely on our backend via Supabase and Cloudflare Workers.
  • Local Preferences: Settings such as your target language and user interface configurations are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local) to personalize the extension UI.

3. Third-Party Services & AI Processing

To provide high-quality translation, fast data syncing, and secure billing, we rely on trusted infrastructure providers:

  • Supabase: Our primary backend and database provider (Supabase Privacy Policy).
  • Google OAuth: For secure sign-in authentication.
  • Cloudflare: Proxies our API traffic, delivers edge security, and manages SSL encryption.
  • Translation & AI Engines: Subtitle text and language queries are processed through our secure Cloudflare Worker proxy which communicates with industry-standard translation and language model APIs (such as DeepL and Groq).
  • Paddle.com: Our Merchant of Record for payment processing, tax calculation, and subscription management. We never handle or store your raw payment details.

Artificial Intelligence & Continuous Improvement: Interaction data and language snippets may be processed by artificial intelligence models to generate personalized practice sessions (Phrase Lab, Shadowing Studio, Story Mode), optimize translation accuracy, and enhance our language learning algorithms over time.

4. Browser Permissions Explained

The Subtra Chrome Extension requests only the permissions necessary to deliver its core features:

  • Storage: To save your progress, settings, and local preferences.
  • Identity: To sync your data seamlessly across devices using Google OAuth.
  • ClipboardWrite: To allow you to quickly copy your User ID or translations when requested.
  • WebNavigation: To ensure translation tools remain active across single-page transitions, iframe embeds, and video switches.

5. Data Retention & Security

Your data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard HTTPS protocols. We retain your vocabulary and learning history as long as your account exists. You can clear your history or delete your account at any time directly within the extension settings or by submitting a request to our support team.
